The overarching aim for English and Spanish, taught as dual languages in the curriculum, is to promote high standards of language and literacy, equipping students with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and instilling love of literature through opportunities for reading for enjoyment.

Acquire a wide vocabulary, an understanding of grammar and knowledge of linguistic conventions for reading, writing and spoken language
Read easily, fluently and with a good understanding. Develop the habit of reading widely and often, for both pleasure and information
Appreciate our rich and varied literary heritage, write clearly, accurately, and coherently, adapting their language and style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences
Use discussion to learn; students should be able to elaborate and explain their ideas clearly are competent in the arts of speaking and listening, making formal presentations, demonstrating to others, and participating in debate

The study of grammar is embedded in all areas of the curriculum, and our goal is to encourage students to reflect on their goals and evaluate the effectiveness of their choices. We group students by language ability and consistently monitor, review, and assess students and their progress.
